Go with the flow and enjoy the moment.
After a year and few months of being pushy on my quest to see the world, South Africa’s wonders were delightfully achieved! The moment the plane landed, excitement was unexplainable. This is it, the wild. The fabulous thing on this vacation was I did not plan anything, NO sleepless nights from creating itineraries. Just did a slight google of the must see and suggested. I am truly grateful to my travelbuddy’s sissy, Shaylee, she did all the research to where and when to take us to each attractions.
Here are my top 3 highlights, with the same intensity level of adventure but totally a different experience.
1. TABLE MOUNTAIN – The 7 New Wonders of Nature
Before I went up to Table Mountain, I kept on wondering… why did it make to the 7 New Wonders of Nature? What is so special with this Mountain aside from the amazing gigantic rectangular shape that you see from afar? Honestly, I was more eager to see the BIG 5 than to go up. But each time I see this mountain from our road trip, the more I became curious. When I was up there, no doubt, the wonder… it’s breathtaking! I was speechless and all I can utter was WOW, WOW! It was really beyond my expectations. Worth of the 2 hours queue, hunger and stressed from their queue management (so many people who just arrived and inserted). It was an experience that I would want to do again and again, the view that I can’t be tired on staring.
Tips: It’s either you go before 8AM or pass 12NN. It’s just my opinion, because most people arrives from 8-10AM.
How to reach the top? Cable Car or Hiking. But to reach the place where the adventures begin, the best options for me is to RENT A CAR – DRIVE TO THE PLACE or the HOP-ON, HOP-OFF OF THE RED CITY TOUR. As they said, Taxis in South Africa are not reliable.
Here’s their website for an updated information: www.tablemountain.net
2. DUNKIER ISLAND – the Seal Island
Who would have thought that I will be realizing one of the episodes from the National Geographic and Discovery Channel. This is a time that I would say, I wish I have a better camera and lens. The boat ride from Hout Bay was about an hour of amazing view.
Tips: Go straight to Hout Bay for a 65R ticket compared to 240R from the Waterfront.
3. HORSE RIDING AT STELLENBOSCH
Like what I kept on repeating when asked how’s the experience… “It’s like in the Hallmark movie set”, was crazy-amazing. Almost two hours trail in a countryside, my horse went mad that I almost fell. I was already willing to walk half of the trail, good thing the guide insisted that we will continue. Experience – ACHIEVED! Would I ride again? Yes, of course!
Tip: Get an entertainer voucher, for a Buy 1, Get 1 experience.
OTHER ACTIVITIES AND PLACES
1. TWO OCEANS AQUARIUM
Great place for families and kids. But for me, it’s quite expensive, a 150R entrance. Though, I had fun specially on their penguins section. Okay, maybe I am a bit bias because I am comparing it to SEA Aquarium, SG Zoo, River Safari and Ocean Park.
2. BUTTERFLY WORLD
They innovated, so you won’t just see butterflies in this place but a bunch of reptiles, birds and some mammals. The place is bigger than what I expected. I wish they would renovate the butterfly dome after all the name is still Butterfly World though they explained through their logo that it’s not just butterflies.
3. GIRAFFE HOUSE
With two giraffes in the house and I enjoyed feeding the turkey and goats. Nice place for kids.
4. BUFFLESFONTEIN GAME DRIVE
I was amaze with the truck, though it’s too noisy. A thumb-up to the driver for an excellent guest service. The highlight on this adventure was going in to the cheetah’s cage, they were asleep when we got there. I would really suggest to fly to Kruger National Park for a perfect Big Five experience.
5. ST JAMES BEACH
Truly it’s not a fancy place, but I like the ambiance. St. James is a public beach with cute colored houses, plus wildflowers everywhere. A perfect picnic place.
7. WINE TASTING
A lot of vineyards and wine tasting places in Stellenbosch. Though I’m not fond of wine because of its bitter taste their cheese and meet is delicious and the location is great, so relaxing.
8. WATERFRONT HARBOR CRUISE
Thirty minutes of cruising by the waterfront. Watching few seals on their early siesta, the Table Mountain and the Lion Head from a different angle.
9. THE PENINSULA DRIVE
I would strongly suggest to do this in Cape Town. From the coastlines to the wildlife, national reserve parks to beaches… sums up a perfect day!
For plants and bird lovers, a perfect place to spend a day. The canopy walk is a big bonus.
To Wrap-up my Trip in South Africa… The beauty of South Africa just blew my mind. This country is way more than what I expected… as my title of this blog, it is truly Beyond My Expectations. Really big credits to Nikki’s family, they made sure that I would experience Cape Town to the fullest. I could not ask for more but a wish of going back one day.Tags: adventure, breakingthecomfortzone, Cable Car, Cape Town, daytrip, escapades, Game Drive, Hout Bay, island escapades, Roadtrip, Safari, Seals, South Africa, Table Mountain, Travel Tips
