“Know your edge and try… or you’ll spend your tomorrows with what ifs and regrets”
Back in twenty-o-four South Korea was added in my list of countries to visit. Most or some Filipinos can relate on this. The influence of Korean TV series and movies just became viral to us. From the beautiful places that I saw in screen I started to fantasize what to do, wear and eat when I can finally visit this country. Each year I was convincing myself to save and visit my cousin who’s working there. When I thought I have the edge of getting the visa approved, I started planning, though I kept on postponing. I failed to save the desired amount because my concept of getting a visa was… you need to have a huge amount of show money.
Eleven years from the time I knew there’s a beautiful country few hours flight from the Philippines, my home. It’s now or I’ll keep on moving on the next vacation. Thinking that my vacation will fall in autumn, am I gonna missed it again? No can do… Lee Min-Ho, Ji Sung, well since I just wrote this, I am adding Song Joong-Ki on the list, are waiting! LOL, this Korean fever just don’t die. So, it’s time to prepare for visa processing now.
How did I get my visa approved for free?
A lot of us when applying a visa, would always ask… what is the trick? how much is the show money? That were also my questions when I was preparing my documents. Let me tell you this, the trick is… be true, legit documents, preparation and that’s it. Here are the documents I prepared based on the requirements from the immigration of the Republic of Korea.
? Completed Visa Form – You can download it here: Link
? Valid Passport and a copy (6 months from the last day of entry)
? Valid Visa of the country of your residence and a copy
? Recent Passport Size Photograph (colored)
? Employment Certificate or NOC (from the Employer)
? Bank Account Statement
? Flight Itinerary and Accommodation
Since I will be staying with my cousins so I submitted the documents below from my SPONSOR (cousin).
? His Employment Certificate
? The Copy of his Passport, Visa and Resident ID
? A letter from my cousin addressed to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. The letter stated my purpose and length of stay, his employment and his home address.
✅ VISA APPROVED, immediately the day after I filed my application.
Questions? How much money do I have in my bank account that? To be honest, just enough for our daily expenses. You may have 5x more show money than what I had, but it does not guaranty the approval. I can say that if your deposits matched with your supposedly monthly earnings and you can prove that you have enough through out your stay, then that’s fine. And think about this, what is your average daily expenses on that country, food (you will be in restaurant oftentimes maybe), tourist attraction fees, transportation, accommodation, then just calculate and add extra, like +50% maybe? or more? Anyway you don’t have to spend all what you saved, it would be your funds for the next trip. Okay budget was 80.00USD per day, but take note my cousins are there. It’s a different story if you still have to book a hotel.
What I thought was my edge in getting the visa?
The consul was convinced that my purpose of this travel is nothing more but tourism, through my documents. I had SG and Sri Lanka prior to this application. I’m an expat in UAE for about 3 years and working in a known company. So, I think those made my ticket issued. To those who had never been to any country, I am not saying that you have less chances. I am just assuming that that were my edge. So, complete your documents and give it a try.
