What does it takes to have a beautiful day?
* * *
We dream big, we aim high, that’s how it should be and there’s nothing wrong with that. Then, we have this thing called the bucket list. Fulfilling them is everyone’s dream. We want to conquer the world, to see all those wonders and famous landmarks. We want to do certain adventures and possess some stuffs. If we can afford all, let’s go for it. My list? I have lots of must do and must see, not even 10% of them are done. It wont be a bucket list if it can served like noodles, rice or fries right? It needs perseverance and courage, to others it costs years of hard work and savings just to start achieving one by one. But anyway, why am I even talking about the bucket list when this blog is about the side trips? I want to reiterate that while working on our big trips, let’s not skip the fun around. There are beautiful places that are just few steps away from our hub. What we should do, is to open our door, call a friend and just go.
The title of this blog is the literally meaning of its content. The side trips are just really a walked from the box. A “BOX” is our term where we once reside, our home away from home. It is located in the island of leisure, fun and adventures – the Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. People spend money and travel hours to explore here, but to us mostly it’s free and the main destinations (mall, world-class theme parks, hotels, yacht club… and the public beach) are few minutes walked.
I would admit, I was a bit lazy back then, well sometimes this laziness still strikes me ?. I’m a daydreamer, I let my mind wander with no action. I always had this thing “I’ll do it tomorrow or I don’t have money, I’ll just stay here”. So these side trips, I am giving all the credits to the Filipino Mafias and South Africans friendsters. Though, I also did my part, especially the cooking. This is the PART 1 of my post about Yas Island.

– THE SIDE TRIPS –
Alright this was not really my first time to come on this side of this island. We had our lifeguard trainings here back then, it was as if we’re shooting one of the episodes of Bay Watch, hehe feeler. But, it was on this moment that I truly appreciated the place, I was not in a hurry to leave, I paused and captured its beauty through lens and through my senses. It was before sunrise strolls with my “bespren”, the man of simplicity and wandering. We enjoyed the cool, misty breeze from the ocean and the desert that we kept on going… watching those strangers fishing. And as usual, my bespren has always have his heroic act.
To make the story simple, my girl friends saw our photos with bespren. So we planned an early morning strolls again, to glimpse the sunrise. This time, it was as fun as the first plus we stayed longer. The pictorial we’re killing our time. I am calling this shoot… USGIRLS: Catching Sunrise Through Lens.
These two siblings from another parents were into evening strolls. It was creepy and funny experience, walking for about thirty minutes, while listening to their horror or thriller stories. The two loved to run their imagination, and create a scary story about anything that we passed by. Our missions were to lay dow by the beach, with no mat, watched the faded glittery sky, to look for woods or sticks in the middle of the night with our mobile as the flashlights, to have a bonfire and marshmallows bbq, to climb the rocks as if it was the grand canyon and fo cross the desert on our way home (hectic). We made extraordinary moments from the ordinary stuffs. (The 2nd photo is not from the evening strolls, just showing the mountain rocks)
? DATE WITH GUNN’s
There are times that you just have to do things on your own. Our family and friends, as much as we want to be with them all the time, there are times that our schedules do not coincide. So, dare to be independent when needed. When you are alone, you have more focus to observe, reflect and be sync with the nature. Underneath this little tree I was peacefully reading while being relax listening to the sound of waves, smelling the ocean and glancing the horizon. Of course I brought something to nibble too.
I am so thankful that when I flew away from home I did not have to feel homesick, and this because I have them. We were like a community. People come and go, we move from places to places, and we can only have memories of them, sooner or later. The best thing is that when we look back, we can feel great because it was an amazing time with them then. The photos describe how fun we once had, how I wish I can post them all.

– TO WRAP UP –
There are so many ways to have fun without spending much, especially when we have companions to do the little adventures, roam around or even just to do nothing — spend the rest of the day talking and laughing. Most of all, it is important not to miss out the wonders in one place just because it’s not in our “must see places”. We can only be genuinely contented if we know how to appreciate simplicity and all the gifts given to us, whatever the value. And, it does not mean that we’re contented, we are settling for less and we will stop chasing our dreams. It’s a way for a happy life.
So, I’m glad that I had those great memories of the BOX, our once-upon-a-time home. And I am thankful that I had the group who dragged me out from the box. I had the glimpse of the most beautiful sunrise and sunset from this island, by the beach.
